What’s a Mashup ? What’s a Bootleg ?
It’s pretty much all the same. Also known as “bastard pop,” a bootleg is a song that’s “mashed-up.” Usually, this means the vocal track of one song is mixed over the instrumentation of another. Using audio editing software, DJs and Mashup Artists combine different artists and musical genres to create new and unique songs that are often greater than the sum of their parts.
Imagine Michael Jackson rocking out with Nirvana, Queen merging with Daft Punk, or Miley Cyrus fronting the Village People, or Kanye West rapping with Beethoven, and many other unexpected combinations ! Can’t imagine that ? (Text taken from Bootie USA)
What’s a “ThriShupMix” ?
Now that you know what a Mashup or Bootleg is, what is a ThriShupMix ? A ThriShupMix is the contraction of Thrift / Mashup / Remix. A ThriShupMix is a Remix or MegaMix including short portions of Mashups. Why “Thrift” ? Thrift means “economy”, and as the sections of a “ThriShupMix” are only small parts of a track, it’s an “economical” piece.
What does “Mezzo AccoustiX” mean ?
Mezzo AccoustiX is the name I gave to some tracks for which I had the studio tracks (Stems / Multritracks) in my possession. Here I propose to use the original tracks, but with a different reading of the song. I always start as in an Unplugged version as if it was an acoustic version to gradually add the other instruments. As it cannot be considered as a REMIX, I found this little name “Mezzo AccoustiX” (Half Accoustic).
“SupaDry” ?
When making “SupaDry” mashups or remixes, I always prefer to use “Multitracks”. I remove certain instruments, accentuate and push the bass a little and rebalance the sound of the other tracks so as to obtain a drier sound than that of the original version you know. As I didn’t like “SUPERDRY”, I changed “SUPER” to “SUPA” and kept the “DRY” : “SupaDry”. Simple, isn’t it? ;-)
About Me
I was a DJ in the 80s and 90s, but that’s all behind me now, yet I’ve never stopped making music, one way or another. Now I’ve been making mashups professionally since at least 2009 (although I was already doing it LIVE at the end of the 80s, but to my knowledge this art as it is known today, didn’t exist yet).
Over the past decade, I’ve produced over 250 Mashups and tried out a few Remixes from time to time, or my “Mezzo AccoustiX” sessions, which are produced on the basis of the original tracks (Stems / Mutlitracks) and offer a different reading of the song you know, with a gradual insertion of different instruments and a rearrangement of sound levels.
There are also various theme compilation albums such as “Bootalicious – The Funky Masters”, “La Masheillaise 5 & 6”, “The Michael Jackson Mashups Album Project”, which have all been produced with the participation of some of the biggest names in Mashup in the world – the cream of the crop – but also “The James Bond Mashup Album Project” & the “Dua Lipa – Magic” album as exclusive producer.
Since the big audio and video platforms around the world are chasing us and closing our accounts because of copyright issues, my productions are mainly published on my website: m3ga.net.
